Although Sprint Nexus S 4G smartphone is also available for purchase from Best Buy, the carrier has just announced that the phone will be available in Sprint stores and online beginning May 8th.

Sprint has listed the Nexus S 4G on its website for a while now, but avoided to make any additional comments about the phone's availability date until today.

Google's second Android smartphone is currently available for pre-order from Sprint for $199.99 with a new two-year contract or eligible upgrade.

As the carrier mentions, customers who pre-order the device are likely to receive the Nexus S 4G around May 8th.

According to Sprint, this is the fourth 4G phone available and twentieth 4G device announced from the carrier.

Manufactured by Samsung, Nexus S 4G is the same device as the Nexus S, which has received WiMAX support.

The Nexus S is the first Android smartphone to be delivered with Gingerbread on board and is said to offer one of the best NFC (Near Field Communication) experiences.

The smartphone is powered by Samsung's own 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 Hummingbird processor, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 GPU (graphics processing unit).

The 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen technology is said to feature a curved design for a more comfortable look and feel in the user’s hand, but in fact only the protective cover of the screen is curved and not the actual display.

Even though it comes with an average 5 megapixel rear camera and camcorder, the Nexus S 4G also features an additional front-facing VGA camera for video calling.

Moreover, Nexus S 4G features a gyroscope sensor to provide a smooth, fluid gaming experience.

The full Google suite is also included and offers users access to services such as Google Search, Gmail, Google Maps with Navigation, syncing with Google Calendar and Voice Actions.

The phone is powered by a 1500 mAh high-capacity Lithium-ion battery.
