HTC and Google barely launched their new tablet

The Nexus 9 tablet just went on sale and customers have barely started getting their hands on the first units, but we're already facing plenty of reports highlighting a slew of problems the tablet is experiencing.

So what seems to be the problem with Google’s brand new, shiny slate? Well, for starters, when you tap the touch screen to start an application or open the control panel, you get an annoying, repeating clicking sound coming from the speakers.

Nexus 9 light bleed is the most common problem

Furthermore, in some cases, the backlit display will produce a halo effect which is quite evident along the edges. This is best visible when playing scenes on a dark background.

Even if light bleeding around the edges is not visible all the time, it’s still annoying to stumble upon this issue when you least expect it. Hopefully, only a certain batch of products has been affected.

For the time being, we’re not exactly sure what causes these problems, but they seem to be linked to the overall assembly process. Hence, a software update released by Google will do nothing to solve the underlying issue.

It appears that the light bleed issues are more widespread than the clicking sound one, and users on Reddit, Android Central Forums and a bunch of German websites (like Tablet Blog) have been complaining about these halos.

Some owners say they are very disappointed to find out that a $500 / €404 device like the Nexus 9 is plagued by such issues.

It appears that light bleeding is no stranger to the Nexus tablet family, as folks on Reddit point out that the Nexus 10 used to be affected by something similar.

The issues might be limited to a batch of items

So if you too have a unit that’s affected by similar flaws, you will have to use your device warranty in order to get your product replaced.

On the other hand, if you haven’t purchased your Nexus 9 but you are thinking of doing just that, you might want to wait a little bit, so HTC can get the chance to solve the problems in factory, or if the problem goes deeper, change the component supplier altogether.

Hopefully, the issues are not very widespread and HTC and Google can do quick damage control. The tablet marks a new beginning for Google’s slate business, by being the first premium model from its lineup.

The device bundles a 2K display, an NVIDIA Tegra K1 64-bit Denver processor and it arrives on the market with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
