At this point it remains a mystery whether Google still plans to launch a new Nexus 10

Back in mid-January we brought you news that the Google Nexus 10 tablet went “Out of Stock” in the Google Play Store, so many hurried to claim this is an indication that the next-gen tablet might be on its way. Bizarrely enough, the tablet is currently back in stock, a few weeks after we brought you the above report.

The Nexus 10 16GB version went “Out of Inventory” a few months back too, with the dedicated page saying “the device is not for sale at this time.”

There’s certainly something offbeat here, as back in December a Google official reportedly claimed the Nexus 10 wouldn’t be restocked once it sold out in the Google Play Store. But exactly the opposite has happened. Is this a clear indication that Google has abandoned its plans of launching a next gen for the device?

If we’re to listen to recent rumors circulating around the web (via industry observer Edgar Murtazin), Google will more likely discontinue the Nexus line by 2015, in favor of a different moniker (maybe the Play Edition).

Other theories indicate Lenovo might be willing to pick up things where Google has left off, so the new Nexus 10 might actually come from the former and not from Samsung, as it has been claimed pre-CES.

Nevertheless, a lot of fans are still eager to get their hands on a new Nexus 10 and not so long ago we saw some of its purported specs appear online.

Since the launch date of the slate has been delayed a number of times, the Nexus 10 is expected to come with the new Android OS version 4.5 (which could be an upgraded version of KitKat or a new software altogether).

The next-gen Nexus 10 should boast a 10-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and draw power from a Samsung Exynos 5 / NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor combined with 3GB of RAM. The tablet might also be equipped with dual cameras (5MP on the back and 3MP in front).

So what do you think? Will we ever see the next-gen Nexus 10 make a debut?
