While the consumer market has seen its share of new solid state drives, makers of such devices have, naturally, kept a close eye on the industrial front, leading to such inventions as Super talent's newest DuraDrive ZT2 and ET2.

The DuraDrive series of solid state drives from Super Talent is not exactly new in itself, but it did just receive two new members.

Said newcomers are dubbed DuraDrive ZT2 and DuraDrive ET2 and take pride, so to speak, in their reliability, durability and performance.

Indeed, durability is a prime asset of the two, as they are meant to be used in environments that regular drives would not survive for long in.

Basically, SuperTalent did all it could to grant them high vibration, temperature (-40°C to +85°C) and shock resistance.

Additionally, the company put in an industrial controller and high-grade SLC (single-level cell) NAND chips, leading to read and write speeds of 125 MB/s and 110 MB/s, respectively.

Other specifications include the PATA (IDE) interface and the 2.5-inch form factor for the DuraDrive ET2, while the ZT2 is smaller, at 1.8 inches, and has ZIF connectivity.

Finally, they have optional support for the Secure Erase feature, which eradicates all trace of stored data, since simply deleted files can be recovered using the right software tools and this would be a security risk.

“By carefully selecting the finest components available, including an advanced industrial controller and premium NAND flash, we are able to further enhance shock, vibration and temperature specifications making the DuraDrive ideal for mission critical markets,” says the company's announcement.

Super Talent expects the two new creations to end up in military applications, medical industry, casinos, embedded industrial systems, enterprise computing and gaming.

They are said to already be shipping, although the press release had no mention of the prices and available storage options.
