The iPad has managed to become a huge success story for Apple but the company can't rest on its laurels and, as many of you were certainly were hoping, the next generation iPad device will come with a front facing camera as well as a back snapper, according to some recent rumors.

This report comes thanks to the ubergizmo website, which states that a company called OmniVision has been chosen to supply the CMOS image sensors needed by the next generation iPad tablet scheduled to be launched in the calendar first quarter of 2011.

The report also claims the new iPad will use a 5 MP camera as well as a VGA camera, a similar configuration with that of the iPhone 4, and will most likely support Apple’s FaceTime video chat software.

Unfortunately, the report doesn't state if Apple decided to use the same CMOS sensors as those used in their latest generation iPhone, this coming with a larger then usual sensor that is able to capture more light thus improving picture quality (compared with other phone cameras that is).

Unfortunately, these are all the details that are available for now, so we still don't know if the next generation iPod will get a HDMI output or HD video playback capabilities, although it's quite safe to assume this to be the case.

We also don't know if Apple will allow its next iPad to record 720p video, the iPhone 4 coming with this capability, or if it will feature a flash for low-light photography.

But moving past all these suppositions, one thing is certain: The next generation iPad is clearly shaping up as quite an interesting device, Apple's decision of adding two cameras to its tablet seeming like the right thing to do, especially if we take a loot at its competition.
