Tesco is apparently already working on a successor for its Hudl tablet

When Tesco announced it was making its own branded tablet available, people didn't really know what to think. Could a supermarket retail chain be capable of putting out on the market a decent slate?

It appears the answer is yes. Just two days after it was launched to the public, the Hudl tablet managed to sell 35,000 units. Now, after two months since the slate has been on market shelves, Tesco announced it has sold over 300,000 pieces, more that it planned to do for the whole of 2013.

Tesco Chief Executive Philip Clarke also mentioned the company planned to release a second-gen Hudl tablet in 2014, says Pocket-Lint. The slate will reportedly come sporting several “enhancements,” but for the moment we’re not given any insights on the matter.

We can only speculate that Tesco might want to upgrade things in the resolution department a notch and maybe slip in a more powerful processor. Competition is clearly on the company's doorstep, with retail giant Aldi releasing its budget Medion LifeTab tablet on December 8.
