Visual quality won't immediately increase on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox 720

Crysis 3 developer Crytek has voiced its opinions concerning games on next-generation consoles, saying that these titles might not be that different in terms of quality from Crysis 3.

Crytek has made a name for itself by pushing platforms to their limits, whether it's the PC, PS3, or Xbox 360 both through games like the upcoming Crysis 3 and through technology like the CryEngine 3.

Now, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has revealed that there might not be that big of a difference between Crysis 3 and early games for the PlayStation 4 or Xbox 720.

"I don't think Crytek can do more on current generation consoles than Crysis 3," he told CVG. "I actually think people will be astonished that next gen launch titles from other companies might not be much different from Crysis 3."

Yerli also praised the unique environments created by the team in Crysis 3, as the urban jungle wasn't achieved by previous games or even movies.

"Crysis 3 has its own visual identity, [the urban rainforest] is a world that hasn't been done before, that kind of depiction, the quality and level of immersion. I think no game has ever done that kind of setting, it's a visual spectacle," he said.

"It has not even been done in Hollywood. People might suggest there are similarities with I Am Legend, but that is quite different to this. I Am Legend is overgrown, but Crysis 3's urban rainforest is a whole different level of that. It has its own identity and I'm very proud of what the team achieved in this regard."

Crysis 3 is going to be released this month across the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms.

Next generation platforms are expected to be announced in the following months and might even appear on the market this year.
