When it comes to choosing a specific cloud service or another, organizations are interested in assessing electronic discovery, or e-discovery, in addition to a multitude of other factors.

The latest installment of the Cloud Fundamentals Video Series from Microsoft’s Trustworthy Computing is meant to shed some light on the matter.

In the video that can be seen embedded at the bottom of this article, Tim Rains, director, Trustworthy Computing, and Kevin Allison, a general manager of Office 365, discuss the importance of e-discovery when it comes to making evaluations of cloud services offerings.

At the same time, you will be able to see Kevin Allison offering a series of details on the way in which Microsoft manages e-discovery requests.

“Electronic discovery, or e-discovery, is a hot topic among security professionals whose organizations are using cloud services or are evaluating using cloud services in the future,” Tim Rains explains in a recent post on the Trustworthy Computing blog.

“When there is a need to perform forensic investigations to recover and collect evidence contained in the cloud for use in potential legal proceedings, cloud customers need to know that their cloud service providers can meet their needs.”

Cloud customers need to understand the way in which cloud services providers manage e-discovery requests, Rains continues.

As soon as they have a better insight on the matter, cloud customers can also learn more on how cloud vendors can respond to government requests for information.

“Cloud providers’ e-discovery processes must be capable of meeting customer needs in a way that isn’t disruptive to the users of cloud services,” Tim Rains continues.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Microsoft has been offering a variety of details on what the evaluation of cloud services providers is all about through this Cloud Fundamentals Video Series. You can have a look at the other episodes in the series on this page.
