A usually-reliable source of leaks shows off iPhone 5C’s volume buttons

Aussie Sonny Dickson has posted a new “iPhone 5C” photo gallery online, this time showing the phone’s pill-shaped volume buttons.

Almost confirmed at this point, the iPhone 5C is Apple’s rumored plastic iPhone which the company reportedly plans to debut this fall alongside the more expensive (and higher-specced) iPhone 5S.

The C in the iPhone 5C dubbing reportedly stands for color, as this particular version of the phone is said to ship in warm shades of blue, yellow, green, red and (perhaps) other colors.

The iPhone 5S is also said to offer additional color options, including a Gold version (which seems highly unlikely).

The iPhone 5C is made of polycarbonate plastic, sources in Apple’s upstream supply chain have revealed. So far we’ve only glanced at the phone’s back shell, but now it seems the volume buttons are shipping.

Sonny Dickson, from Melbourne, Australia, has been responsible for various accurate leaks, leading us to believe his new iPhone 5C parts gallery is genuine.

He shows off various pill-shaped volume buttons which not only seem consistent with all the rumors regarding the phone’s color set, but also the design.

The iPhone 5S combines design elements from various Apple products that have shipped over the years, including:

- the iPhone 3GS (the back plastic shell);

- the iPhone 5 (the tall rectangular shape and the near-identical front-facing panel);

- the iPad mini (bottom connectors, speaker grill);

- and even the now-discontinued White MacBook (which was also made of polycarbonate plastic).

While this new leak certainly isn’t very tantalizing (after all, they’re just tiny volume buttons), it does well to sustain all the existing rumors about the low-end iPhone.

Check out the handful of photos below, or visit Sonny’s blog for the full set of pictures.

The phone seems all but confirmed at this point, and if rumors about Apple’s planned September event are true, we’re less than a month away from the official unveiling.

According to a recent Bloomberg report, soon after the new iPhones are unveiled, Apple has a couple of new iPads to introduce as well.
