CPU coolers come in many shapes and sizes, and a certain new creation by be quiet! probably tops most, if not all, of its peers in terms of sheer size and weight, its name being quite fitting all things considered.

Since new central processing units and accelerated processing units were released not long ago, it is not odd for cooler makers to reveal new solutions meant to complement them.

Apparently, be quiet! sought to stand out by making a CPU cooler that may or may not deform motherboards, depending on their thickness and distance to the motherboard tray.

The reason this is even implied is the sheer weight of the product, of 1,550 grams.

The newcomer measures 133 x 150 x 166 mm and utilizes seven so-called '3D' heatpipes with an oxygen-free copper layer, as well as a pair of aluminum fin towers.

Two SilentWings PWM fans with the fluid dynamic bearing (a long life of 300,000 hours) a diameter of 120mm are present, both featuring seven blades with a wave pattern.

Said wave patters grants them a good air flow, and the maximum rotary speed achievable is of 1,700 RPM (rotations per minute).

Ne doubt this cooler will drive temperatures far lower than usual for any CPU it may end up covering.

For those interested in just which chips are supported, the list is, in fact, quite long. Intel socket LGA 775, LGA 1155, LGA 1156 and LGA 1366 are all supported, as are AMD AM2, AM2+, AM3, 754, 939 and 940 processors form Advanced Micro Devices.

Sales of the be quiet! Dark Rock are, apparently, already underway, for the price of 78.90 Euro. The product bundle includes the Shuin-Esu thermal grease.

What remains to be seen is how many end-users decide to test the endurance of their mainboards against the massive frame of this newcomer.
