Wireless audio systems seem to have become quite popular lately, given the fact that the steps ahead made in wireless broadcasting technologies are seriously limiting the loss of signal quality, not to mention the fact that they enable a higher level of freedom as far as placing the speakers around the house is concerned.

For this reason, Aperion Audio has decided to go wireless with its Zona Wireless Surround System, an audio system that employs a compact wireless transmitter (2.4 GHz wireless band) and two powered bookshelf speakers with tuned ports and built-in receivers.

Aperion crafted Zona's speakers to work aesthetically and sonically with most home theater systems, the compact transmitter connecting to surround pre-out jacks of an AVR or DVD player and two speakers link automatically when plugged in.

Once connected, the system produces uncompressed 16 bit/48 kHz CD-quality audio.

The audio solution features 2 x 20W digital Class D Amplifier with DSP per speaker, a 2-way design in solid MDF cabinet with tuned port, 1-inch soft dome silk tweeter and 4.5-inch woven fiberglass woofer.

Moreover, the frequency range is set from 55 Hz to 20 kHz, while the latency has been set at around 18 ms.

Zona can also double as a high-end wireless solution for music stored on a computer or virtually any audio source, because, using the USB port, users can send audio to speakers located up to 150 feet away.

"Nobody likes wires snaking throughout their home," says Aperion Audio's Home Theater Guru Jason Hicks.

"When speaking with our customers we found that many leave surround or rear speakers unconnected because they couldn't find a simple or neat way to run the wires.

Most other wireless solutions on the market suffer from poor fidelity, complex setup, and an unreliable connection," Mr. Hicks concluded.

The Aperion Zona Wireless Surround Speaker System (two speakers, one transmitter) is priced at $499, which is actually a pretty OK price point, all things considered.
