SEGA, via the Japanese video gaming magazine Famitsu, has announced that Ryu ga Gotoku Of The End, which can be literally translated as “Like a Dragon at the End,” will be released on the Japanese market on March 17 of next year.

The video game, which was officially announced early during the fall of this year, will take place in the familiar Tokyo representation that the series has built, with a zombie invasion in full swing and with a cast of characters drawn from the previous titles in the series banding together to take them on and restore order.

So far the development team has confirmed the presence of: Kazuma Kiryu, the main leading man of the series, Goro Majima, who was present in the franchise since its first installment, Ryuji Goda and Shun Akiyama.

It seems that Ryu ga Gotoku Of The End will include sewer based sequences that seem similar to those of Resident Evil and a tank is set to make an appearance during the story, probably as a good way of beating back the zombie hordes.

The March 17, 2011 launch date for the new Yakuza video game is just a few days after the launch date for Yakuza 4 in the United States.

This suggests that those players who enjoy the series in the West should be thinking about getting access to the zombie based game at some point during 2012.

Yakuza has always found a strong audience in Japan because it tackles subjects that are close to home for a lot of gamers in the market while also delivering a lot of gameplay in each installment.

The games have not found the same level of success in the West and their fortunes have not been helped by the decision from publisher SEGA to cut out some elements of the game.

Here's a pretty long trailer for the new Yakuza title which shows off a lot of what the game has to offer:
