Forbes magazine dubbed New York's Upper East Side, with area code 10021, the most expensive neighborhood in the States, for the first time ever.

The Daily Mail reports that homes on the Upper East Side are valued at an average of $6.5million.

"The regions most popular are these zip codes that hug Central Park, especially with high-end buyers. [...] Wealthy, foreign investors consider it a safe-haven investment," Forbes real-estate reporter Morgan Brennan explained.

Results came in after 22,000 zip codes in the U.S were taken into consideration. Until this year, the town of Alpine, NJ, held the title for most expensive pieces of real-estate.

Apparently, the existence of single-family estates is what drives up real-estate prices in the exclusive neighborhood.

According to the NY Daily News, zip code 10075 holds townhouses such as Mayor Michael Bloomberg's, valued at more than $3 million.

However, the financial crisis is affecting the Upper-East Side. Last year, BornRich informed that a $90 million mansion, on 4 East 80th Street, originally built for a Woolworth heiress, had been put up for rent, for $210,000 a month.
