News Corp looking to swoop into the fight

It's still under complete hush-hush, so any details are not yet available, but talks have been reported to have been held between Internet giant with clay feet Yahoo! and Media Empire News Corp. The two companies had nothing to comment on the supposed conjoining but a person familiar with the situation, quoted by the Associated Press, said that all aspects of the alliance were still being discussed on Wednesday.

Yahoo! might find in News Corp's array of services a lot of aspects it could improve in. First and foremost, MySpace, the world's largest social network, that would put an end to all the swings and misses of the Sunnyvale-based company in the adjacent domain, as well as a good medium for displaying ads. Not taking into consideration the shortcoming of Google in the same area, over the last quarter, it would be like virgins' blood running through Yahoo! veins, if you are familiar with Countess Bathory's legend, keeping it forever young.

On the other hand, this could only be one of Yahoo!'s many attempts to scare Microsoft into making a higher bid for its shares, knowing that the Redmond-based company is absolutely forced to come through with the takeover, if it is to have a shot at turning the search and advertising tide that Google is currently riding.

Yahoo!'s Jerry Yang has said on numerous occasions that his board and the consultants hired are analyzing every alternative that wouldn't force the Internet Giant into Microsoft's bed unwillingly. A meeting of the blue-yahoo-blooded executives is said to have been scheduled for tomorrow and more details will probably be leaked, as always, following it.

If the News Corp - Yahoo! deal is going to happen, it probably won't be a takeover, ruled out by Chairman Rupert Murdoch, but more in the lines of a deal involving just MySpace and a few other online services that his company could provide.
