Xiaomi might have a new Redmi 1S in the pipeline

First there was the Xiaomi Hongmi smartphone which sold exclusively on Chinese territories. But not long after, the handset market rolled out the Redmi 1S as the semi-international version of the above-mentioned handset.

Both models proved to be consumer sweet-hearts and that’s why it shouldn't come as a surprise, Xiaomi is planning to refresh the lineup by bringing out a shiny, new successor. Yay!

Xiaomi Redmi 1S successor spotted with TENAA

And it looks like we won’t have to wait so much for such a product to arrive in the wild. An unannounced Xiaomi handset has just popped up for a visit with the Chinese TENAA website and even if its name hasn't been revealed yet, it definitely resembles the shape and format of the Redmi 1S.

But there are a few subtle differences to be spotted here and there, like the redesign of the capacitive keys and the fact that the LED flash and speaker grill living on the back are positioned a little bit differently.

Anyway, we’re given a few details about the upcoming handset, like the fact that it weighs 132 g / 0.29 lbs and measures 134 x 67.21 x 9.2 mm / 5.2 x 2.64 x 0.36 inches.

This means that the successor is going to be a bit more compact than the current Redmi 1S, which is good news (it measures 137 x 69 x 9.9 mm / 5.3 x 2.71 x 0.38 inches and weighs 158 g / 0.34 lbs).

Redmi 1S successor specs show similarity to the original

The smartphone will take advantage of 4.7-inch display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and will bring onboard a 1.2GHz quad-core processor or unknown origin fitted with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. Other specs include two cameras (8MP on the back and 2MP up in front) and LTE connectivity.

It doesn't seem the new handset is an incremental upgrade over the Redmi 1S, although the presence of LTE and Android 4.4.4 KitKat (no Android 5.0 Lollipop, sorry) certainly makes it sweeter.

The originals smartphone came with the same 4.7-inch touchscreen capable of delivering HD resolution at 312 ppi (pixel density). The mobile device hit the shelves with a 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor fitted with 1GB of RAM and Adreno 305 image processor.

It also has the same 8MP camera the successor is going to pack, although the frontal one received an update from the original 1.6MP.
