The 8 Megapixel "mobile battle" is slowly but surely heating up, with Sony Ericsson and Samsung already in the game, and Motorola rumored to unveil its 8 MP handset soon. Now we have a new 8 Megapixel phone, but this time it does not come from a major company.

Named X908, the new monster camera phone comes from China and it's a pretty weird-looking candybar. Theoretically, the features of X908 are the ones of a high-end device but, since we're not sure about the overall functionality of the handset, we can't include it in the high-end category yet.

Besides the 8 Megapixel camera (which also features 3x optical zoom), the X908 brings the following: a 3 inch TFT touchscreen display with 240 x 320 pixels and 16 million colors, mobile TV capabilities, dual SIM technology, Music and Video players, Bluetooth, stereo FM radio, NES simulator, MMS capabilities, 36MB of expandable memory and so on. The handset packs a battery that can provide a talk-time between 280 and 400 minutes or a stand-by time between 280 and 380 hours.

As most of the Chinese phones, the X908 rates "poor" when it comes to connectivity, as it only offers support for the 900 and 1800 MHz GSM frequencies. Moreover, it is neither lightweight nor small, weighing 140 grams and measuring 115 x 55 x 20 millimeters, this being another uncool aspect about the device.

The X908 is quite cheap for the features that it packs, and that's the main reason why users should have doubts about its real performances. Anyway, those who want to buy the handset can get it for a retail price of around 100 Euros (160 USD) from this online retailer. Of course, for those who don't live in China, shipping taxes will be added.
