Tascam MP3 player does them all. And more.

Tascam needs no special introduction as it is a name whose elite presence in the audio gear world has made tech history more than once. Now it looks like it's about to do the same with the all-new and revolutionary MP-GT1!

It's a bit of an under-rating to call the MP-GT1 an MP3 player since what it does is so much more than any MP3 player could ever dream of. Having an MP3 playing unit is one thing; having an MP3 playing unit with a user-adjustable speed and manual pitch correction, and having these two functions working separately makes quite a difference.

The Tascam MP-GT1 is thus far more than a simple MP3 player; actually, the "GT" in its name should say about everything - it's all about guitars! The MP-GT1 is actually a very cool guitar trainer based on the MP3 players.

While being able to store around 240 songs (4-minute, 128kbps average), the Tascam MP-GT1 can playback MP3 files faster or slower without changing the pitch so the player can keep up with difficult passages.

And if they are even more difficult - no problem, the extensive looping methods ensure you can actually "crop" the passage you want and play it back again and again until you get the tunes right. The pitch-altering is made by means of 1% grades so you'll be able to match your guitar with what's playing and vice-versa in few very easy steps.

And if we're speaking about guitars, you should know that Tascam MP-GT1 acts like a small guitar FX processor as well: plug your axe into the 1/4" jack and take your "MP3" experience to another level using effects like overdrive, distortion, delay, flanger, reverb and lots more. Smaller and significantly lighter than a serious stompbox, the MP-GT1 sports even more useful things for the jammer: oscillator, tuner and metronome, along with the 1/8" headphones jack.

And if you think this was about all, I say that the Tascam MP-GT1 comes with a 9-hour lithium-ion rechargeable battery, 128x64 LCD backlit display, USB port and auto power off and hold functions. The most intriguing feature is the "Guitar Canceller" about which Tascam claims that it can remove guitar parts in a stereo mixdowned track... so you can play them yourself.

Now, I can't believe such a thing until I see and hear it myself. I guess every audio production software developer has had its shot at glory trying to come out with a vocal remover and all they've got was roughly crap. I just can't buy this guitar cancelling technology... at least not yet. I'll be looking for the price of the Tascam MP-GT1 because this is definitely a tool to use for a guitar player.
