Microsoft continues to invest in driving asynchronous development forward, and the latest release of Visual Studio Async is an illustrative example in this regard.

Early adopters can now download a fresh Community Technology Preview of Visual Studio Async, updated to play nice with a range of new releases from the software giant.

Testers looking to take Visual Studio Async CTP (Version 3) out for a spin need to head over to the Microsoft Download Center and grab the bits.

“The Visual Studio Async CTP (Version 3) extends Visual Studio 2010, providing a new, streamlined syntax for asynchronous development,” the software giant stated.

According to the Redmond company “the original Async CTP from PDC 10 brought asynchronous programming to C# and Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2010.”

There are a number of enhancements in Visual Studio Async CTP Version 3, with Microsoft adapting the solution to its evolving technologies.

For example, Visual Studio Async CTP Version 3 is fully compatible with Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1. Furthermore, VS2010 SP1 is now required to run the pre-release versions of Visual Studio Async.

Microsoft has also extended compatibility beyond the English variants of Visual Studio and Visual Studio Express, to additional languages.

Furthermore, Visual Studio Async CTP Version 3 is also set up to play nice with Silverlight 5, and Windows Phone SDK 7.1 (Mango).

According to the software giant, early adopters testing the recently released Roslyn CTP will also be able to take advantage of Visual Studio Async.

Microsoft stresses that Visual Studio Async CTP Version 3 comes with new licensing terms, enabling developers to leverage the release into production.

“This license does not constitute encouragement for you to use the CTP for your production code. The CTP remains an unsupported and use-at-your-own-risk Technology Preview. However, we’ve received many requests from developers to use the CTP for production code, and so have changed the license to allow that,” the company added.
