Launch depends heavily on negotiations with the movie industry...

Another Apple media event has come and gone and the 'true' video iPod is still not here. It has been on the rumor treadmill for quite some time now, but, like the iPod Hi-Fi, it looks like it will be making a late entrance.

In the meantime, ThinkSecret has gathered more information from its sources which have 'confirmed' that the new model of the iPod will have a 4-inch display. It seems that Apple was considering both a 3.5 and a 4 inch display version, but after much wailing and gnashing of teeth has decided upon a 4 inch version with a quarter-inch border which would serve to maintain the current form factor.

According to ThinkSecret, the model is on track for a possible announcement as soon as late March or early April, however, this date seems to depend heavily upon non-Apple factors. The unveiling could very well be put back if Apple does not reach a satisfactory agreement with the movie industry for distributing feature length movies via the iTunes Music store.

Apple is very likely to want to launch both the new product and the new service at the same time, thus maximizing the publicity and offering the integral solution the way it did with music.
