New video from iamamiwhoami, “y” is out, could hold the key to the entire mystery

At the beginning of the year, a new viral campaign dropped. It was build around a female singer and featured mostly short shots of her, with her face hidden, and snippets of music verging on electronica. Initially, it was believed iamamiwhoami could be any of today’s established female artists, but most likely Christina Aguilera or Madonna. iamamiwhoami is neither – but she does have a new video out.

The identity of the woman lending her voice to the iamamiwhoami project has not yet been established beyond any trace or doubt – or made official in any way for that matter – but she’s supposed to be Swedish singer Jonna Lee. iamamiwhoami has just released a brand new long video, called “y” and probably offering the key to the whole mystery that has been fueling such intense speculation and heated debate online, as the NY Mag believes.

“Y” is iamamiwhoami’s thirteenth video in total, but it’s the seventh long one. After “Prelude 699130082.451322-5.4.21.3.1.20.9.15.14.1.12,” “9.1.13.669321018,” “9.20.19.13.5.723378,” “13.1.14.4.18.1.7.15.18.1.1110,” “15.6.6.9.3.9.14.1.18.21.13.56155,” and “23.5.12.3.15.13.5-8.15.13.5.3383” (all coded message that have been deciphered since release) came “b,” “o,” “u-1,” “u-2,” “n,” “t” and, now, “y.” It’s not hard to imagine that the final coded message from the artist or band is “bou(u)nty,” it is being said. As for what that may stand for – well, that’s just a different kettle of fish. Some believe the message is that there’s more to come.

“Although it’s been generally agreed upon that the woman in the video is Swedish singer Jonna Lee, she’s yet to make anything official. (And last we checked in, it was far less clear.) This video, called ‘y,’ appeared online earlier this week and is the longest and most elaborate of her/their videos thus far. (Previous videos were titled ‘b’ ‘o’ ‘u’ ‘n’ and ‘t’ – ‘bounty,’ perhaps?) Anyway, enjoy. And fall down the iamamiwhoami rabbit hole at your leisure,” the NY Mag writes.

“y” marks the return of several elements also present in previous videos and is as rich in symbols as them. One may note here the white liquid dripping over the place, the emperor in underwear, the woman and the forest wrapped in aluminum foil, the black substance covering her and the cat. The number six is also a constant, as the dinner table no one is sitting at has six plates for six persons. It is believed there may be a connection between this number and the number of band members in the iamamiwhoami project.

However, until more on this is made public, below is the video in all its quirky awesomeness. Enjoy.
