Microsoft has evolved Windows Live OneCare 2.0 and a fresh version is now available for download. The Redmond company is all about silent updates these days. First, the stealthy updates introduced to the Windows Update infrastructure in Windows Vista and Windows XP and now the silent upgrade of the first beta for OneCare 2.0. With the latest refresh, Microsoft moved OneCare Beta to version 2.0.2350.10. At the beginning of July, OneCare transitioned from version1.6 to 2.0. Initially, the company provided a specially crafter OneCare 1.6 installer to a select group of beta participants, set up to upgrade the security solution to 2.0 by default.

Only days after, Microsoft opened up the beta of OneCare 2.0 to the public. And now, OneCare 2.0.2350.10 is up for grabs. The latest variant of the 2.0 testing build for OneCare is in the natural line of evolution for the beta product. Microsoft is essentially softening the rough corners of the security solution without introducing visible changes. The Redmond company is simply tuning up OneCare under the hood. But still, if you are indeed using the beta, than it will be worthwhile to download and install the update, this if the antivirus does not automatically prompt you to do so.

"In Windows Live OneCare 2.0, Microsoft sought to help consumers better manage their home environment. Windows Live OneCare 2.0 will include features that are designed to simplify the management and use of multi-PC environments [and] several new features that deliver PC tune-ups to help maintain computer performance and reliability, and that ease management in a multiple-PC environment," revealed Gina Narkunas, lead product manager for Windows Live OneCare, back when the OneCare 2.0 moved into Beta in July.

In addition to the multi-machine management over a home network, the start-time optimizer, the proactive resolves and the centralized backup, OneCare 2.0 Beta also brings to the table support for both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows Vista. And on top of this, users will be able to enjoy a limited offer of free online photo backup and storage for the duration of the testing period.
