The game has not yet been officially revealed by Bethesda

Josh Sawyer, the leading designer who has worked on Fallout: New Vegas at Obsidian, says that he expected the upcoming fourth title in the open world post-apocalyptic series to offer a more open experience and more difficult challenges for gamers to overcome.

The existence of Fallout 4 has not yet been confirmed by the team at the Bethesda Game Studios, but fans are speculating that the entire team that has previously worked on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is at the moment linked to it.

Josh Sawyer tells Eurogamer that, “A lot of stuff I did in New Vegas was to try and make choices feel more impactful and meaningful and to challenge the player. Some people want to go through the wasteland like a tourist, which is fine – they don’t really want it to be super-difficult. They want it to be interesting and engaging, and they want to see a lot of neat stuff and go through a cool story.”

The developer says that this approach is fine with him because plenty of players have time restrictions and might be unable to spend as much time with a Fallout title as one of the long-term fans of the series.

The developer adds, “Personally I like things to be a little more challenging and there’s a segment of players that also want. I don’t have any doubt in this.”

Mod support is also a requirement according to Josh Sawyer.

Fallout: New Vegas was a spin-off for the series and Obsidian has taken the core elements of the latter and has introduced as many choices as possible in order to encourage replays and make the game world feel alive.

No information is at the moment known about the fourth game in the series and the leadership of publisher Bethesda has made it pretty clear that it has no plans to deliver an official announcement at the upcoming E3 2014 event.

Rumors have suggested that Fallout 4 might take place in the Pacific North West and that gamers might take a trip to Texas.

Presumably, the project is being created with a new engine that can use the extra computing power delivered by the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

At the moment, Josh Sawyer is no longer involved with the Fallout series in any way and is leading the team at Obsidian that’s working on Pillars of Eternity.

The game will deliver a classic role-playing experience and was funded via Kickstarter.
