A new masterpiece by Vincent van Gogh has been uncovered, decades after the latest discovery of this kind. It is currently held by The Van Gogh Museum and it is a full size canvas.

According to the AP, it was sitting in an attic in Norway and it was believed to be the work of a different artist. It currently belongs to a private collector who wishes to remain unnamed.

The “Sunset at Montmajour” was unveiled in Amsterdam and it is a depiction of the master's familiar style – broad strokes, a skyline, trees and bushes.

A description in one of van Gogh's letters offered a clue about the name of the work. It was completed on July 4, 1888, and it was mentioned in a letter written by the artist to his brother, Theo.
