Buffalo has been releasing external and internal storage solutions of multiple kinds, and it seems like it is ready to expand its offer, its newest product being an external hard disk drive series with support for the newest USB standard.

Now that native chipset support for USB 3.0 is becoming less and less of a far-off dream, more and more storage units compatible with it are appearing.

Those that need a reminder will be interested in knowing that the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard is the latest iteration of the Universal Serial Bus interface.

Basically, it has a maximum theoretical transfer speed of more or less 5 Gbps (4.8 Gbps to be more specific), which is actually ten times faster than the 480 Mbps of USB 2.0.

This is why the interface was so quickly adopted even while motherboards with support for it were few and far between.

The new collection of HDDs that Buffalo created goes by the name of HD-LB2.0TU3 and resembles, design-wise, the DriveStation Axix LED.

There are three models, with capacities of 1 TB, 1.5 TB and 2 TB, respectively, all of which come equipped with the aforementioned USB 3.0 technology,

In terms of design, they use the 3.5-inch form factor, measuring 39 x 123 x 189 mm, while their weight is of 1 kg each.

They also have the advantage of a low power draw, as low as 0.15W during idle in fact, thanks to the ECO mode.

Not only that, but Buffalo even threw in internal anti-vibration silicone holders, for a higher degree of endurance.

Currently, on Japanese stores are preparing to receive deliveries of the new hard drives, which means that the product page is found on Buffalo Japan.

Shipments to customers, however, will only commence next month, December, 2011, for prices equivalent to $163 (1 TB), $201 (1.5 TB) and $251 (2 TB).
