Zipper Interactive and Sony are announcing that all players who have picked up MAG, their online based squad bases shooter, will be getting fresh toys to play with in the game for free on March 25, as part of the so-called Trooper Gear Pack. The release is part of Zipper's commitment to provide support for MAG even as it is working on the newly announced SOCOM 4, the Move-powered third person squad shooter.

Zipper is also announcing that it plans to hold a Double XP Weekend promotion for MAG, which is set to begin on March 25, at 8 in the morning GMT, and will end on March 28 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.

The bonus will be active for all players as long as they do not quit out of the battle they are engaged in and stack with the XP bonuses, which Veteran players already have.

The Trooper Gear Pack introduces quite a few weapons: a flashbang grenade that can blind and confuse an opponent; one new light machine gun for each of the factions, Raven’s APEX 100SE, SVER’s RTK-74 Vla and Valor’s Mk 46 Mod 1, which provide better fire support abilities for the squad; two new uniforms that are tailor made for combat taking place indoor or in urban settings. All the new content is based around requests coming from the player base of MAG, the flashbang being at the top of the list.

Jeremy Dunham, who is the senior community manager at Zipper Interactive, has hinted in the blog post announcing the Trooper Gear Pack that Zipper will be delivering even more content for MAG, with the upcoming content including bigger things than weapons and uniforms, which would suggest a fresh game mode. Expect to see something new for MAG announced until the Sony presentation at E3.
