Bass to everybody's taste

Two new bass-machines have been announced, bearing the mark of two distinct and most respected manufacturers: Genelec and Revel. Different in terms of build, both subwoofers have been created to respond direct requests coming from discerning listeners who were looking for new solutions in characteristic places. Even if the Genelec bass unit is a most interesting piece for custom in-wall installations, the subwoofer presented by Revel is no less attractive, since we're talking about some of the best names in the business.

A cool thing is that both subs are retailing per piece, thus being easy to accommodate in various spaces and to integrate with existing audio arrays, in home theater or simpler room-installations equally.

The bass solution showcased by Genelec has a rather funny name: the AIWS5041A. Beyond this name, which is most likely to be instantly forgotten, the subwoofer is nothing of a joke: it is loaded with dual 6.5" woofers which can deliver a hefty bass for rooms 3,000 cubic feet or more. The dimensions are perfect for in-wall mounting using Brackets – 46 1/6 by 13 5/8 by 3 1/4 inches (117.2 x 34.6 x 8.25 cm) – while it can be powered by a RAM3 amplifier with 125W per channel; the frequency response ranges between 35 and 95 Hz, making this woofer a nifty extension for your floorstading speakers. Pricing details are expected soon.

The second new bass machine is the Concerta B120 from Revel, a sub with an elegant and noble look, pretty much in the same line as the exquisite traditional quality sold by Revel from their first days. This woofer comes with a large-excursion 12" driver, powered by a large ceramic magnet and with a 2" voice coil, capable to fill in even large rooms. The integrated amplifier feeds as much as 250W to the driver and the extensive internal bracing of the MDF cabinet prevents resonance and uncontrolled vibrations from deteriorating the sound.

Additionally, you can get the TX1 wireless transmitter for the Revel Concerta B120 and thus eliminate long cable runs across large spaces while at the same time being able to put this sub in pretty much any place, including furnished cabinets, thanks to the down-firing port and rubber feet. Coming in black, silver and cherry models, the price is the only thing yet to be known.
