Via Bluetooth

As you might remember from one of our previous articles, we've recently had the chance to get very close and personal with one of the funniest and most entertaining products ever released by Sony, its famous Rolly. However, it would seem that the Japanese company is keen on promoting this product even further, since it has just launched a new series of Rollys (SEP-50BT), which, besides all the features we're already accustomed to, will also allow users to control these dancing robots right from their mobile phones.

Practically, users will be able to control the Rolly directly from their Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones. Via a special application, they'll move the device around, pick up the songs Rolly is about to play or even adjust the music volume. Furthermore, they'll also be able to send the music stored on their mobile phone directly to the 2 GB memory of the device.

It's also interesting to note that even computers fitted with Bluetooth modules will be able to control the SEP-50BT. However, in order to control the new Rolly from a PC, one will have to first install a piece of specialized software on the respective machine. Don't worry, though, the required application is provided in Rolly's sales package.

The Bluetooth module inserted in the device is compliant with the Version 2.0 specification and works on the 2.4GHz frequency range (2.4000GHz-2.4835GHz). It supports some of the most popular Bluetooth profiles, including here A2DP, AVRCP and SPP, while the functioning range is pretty much what anyone would expect from a Class II Bluetooth device, namely around 10 meters.

The new SEP-50BT Rolly will be arriving in Japanese stores towards the end of November and will retail for the equivalent of roughly $427, which, nevertheless, is way too high a price point, especially during this rather "dangerous" period when everyone has to keep all unnecessary spending to a minimum.
