The company seems hell bent on surprising us these days

Earlier this month, Sony said that it had a new e-book reader headed towards US shores, as well as Europe, Canada, and other countries. Sadly, this isn't likely to be happening anymore.

Well, at least some of it won't. The PRS-T3 has already started shipping in Europe, Canada and everywhere else (mostly).

What won't be happening is the US release. Sony said that it will not be offering it there after all, “In response to the region’s market changes.”

Basically, Sony doesn't think that enough people in the US would like an e-reader, even if it does have a 6-inch 16-level greyscale touch-enabled display, 2 GB storage, Wi-Fi and Quick Charge.

Instead, it will sell Xperia-series devices, like the Xperia Tablet Z and Xperia Z smartphone.

Looking at it objectively, I guess they have a point. More than in other countries, US citizens are prone towards forking up the extra cash needed to get a tablet instead. Although it makes you wonder why Sony hadn't already made that assessment three weeks ago.
