Get them while they are hot

One of the most interesting aspects of the music simulator games, like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, is the way they create additional content for the player and additional revenue for the company by releasing new music tracks which can be played in-game. It seems that both Activision and Harmonix are now committed to offering regular new downloadable content, extending the life of their games and the power of their brands.

On Thursday, players of Guitar Hero III will get the chance to download three more songs from Muse, if they liked the way Knights of Cydonia, the closing track off their latest album, sounded in-game. The new songs are Exo-Politics, Supermassive Black Hole and Stockholm Syndrome. The downlodable versions are all master tracks and the expected price is $6.25 which is the equivalent of 500 Microsoft points, if the pricing configuration doesn't change. The songs will be available on both the Xbox 360 and on the PlayStation 3.

On the Rock Band side of the music simulator market, Fall Out Boy and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are each contributing a track to the ever growing DLC list. This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race is the new Fall Out Boy track while the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are releasing the song Date With the Night. In addition to these two tracks from established artists, gamers will also get to download It Hurts, coming from Angels & Airwaves. The songs are again master tracks and each will cost you 1.99 dollars or 160 Microsoft points. There' also the option of getting the Scene Pack, which contains all three song for 5.49 dollars or 440 Microsoft points. The tracks are coming to the Xbox and the PS3.

As the competition between Rock Band and Guitar Hero intensifies, be prepared for more DLC coming for both games and even some exclusive content, like the one that Aerosmith will bring to their Guitar Hero games.
