The Sunrise from Ocean Blue

As you're probably quite well aware, HDTVs are not exactly the most affordable electronic devices around, most people being forced to save quite a lot before they can actually afford to purchase such a product. However, it would seem that things might actually change in the future, since a British company has just announced the development of a special software application that might actually help cut down costs of high-definition sets by quite an impressive margin.

The software, dubbed Sunrise and developed by the Ocean Blue company, will supposedly enable viewers to receive HD, digital, and analogue transmissions on a single chip within an LCD or Plasma TV. Hence, the number of chips required for each HDTV will decrease and, together with it, the overall cost of such a device.

Furthermore, as the company informs us, the Sunrise will allow channel tuning for both analogue and digital to be carried out through the same user interface and will also enable an easy dual set-up process for Integrated Digital TVs via one single user interface.

Commenting on the company's announcement, Ocean Blue’s CEO, Ken Helps, declared that, "High Definition will be the hottest broadcast technology of 2009 and the single chipset solution for televisions will be the panacea. Standards such as DVB-T2 have only been finalised this summer. Ocean Blue is working closely with the semi-conductor industry to produce the hardware & software solution that will power the new generation of televisions, which will also be more energy efficient."

It remains to be seen whether the most important players in the HDTV arena will actually implement this software into their upcoming products and whether the Sunrise will bring about a cut in HDTV costs, but most future HDTV adopters surely hope so.
