Wired is reporting that Brad Wardell, Stardock's president and Chief Executive Officer, has recently confirmed that Sins of a Solar Empire was due to get an expansion in the not-too-distant future. That's good news and shows Stardock's dedication to the game and its commitment to keeping the fans happy.

Since Sins was released earlier this year, it has already received three updates, dealing with everything from overpowered siege vessels to pirates spawning and the way the in-game market functions. Various speeds for mining, research and gameplay were introduced to give each player an unparalleled level of control over the setup of his game. Patch 1.04 is now code complete and should be out in the next few days dealing with a few more of the balance issues that players keep complaining about and there's a patch 1.1, the first major upgrade to Sins of a Solar Empire, that should be out in a month or so. It includes a new networking system designed for easier functionality and a new maximum graphics setting for those players with top of the line computers that really want to enjoy the strange beauty of space and multi-ship battles.

The only details on the expansion given out by Brad Wardell are that it is going to feature a "full on" single player campaign, with a clear story behind it and some background on the universe of the RT4X game, and that it will also add new factions to the three already fighting for control of the universe. It's much too early to be talking about estimated release dates or even game demonstrations, but if the Sins of a Solar Empire quality is still there, the expansion is sure to be a hit with gamers.

The inclusion of a single player campaign is likely to address the biggest complaint that gamers had regarding the first game, the lack of a storyline to link battles together. Personally, I found the "male your own story" sandbox mode entirely satisfactory, but a single player campaign will surely make the game an even bigger hit. In the first month alone, Sins of a Solar Empire has shipped some 200,000 units.
