Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. has announced that it is working on a new video game in the long running Silent Hill series, set to arrive at some point during 2011 for the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony and for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

The new Silent Hill title will be played from a third person perspective and will deliver the horror and action mix that the series is known for with Konami saying that it is also building a complex narrative experience.

The main character will be Murphy Pendleton, the lone survivor of a crash which involved a prison transport vehicle.

He gets stranded in Silent Hill and quickly discovers that the things he sees and experiences are not what they seem.

Konami says that players will have a chance to explore a complex network of side quests that the video game generates depending on the way players tackle the game.

The main gameplay experience will involve, as always, a choice between facing up to the supernatural horrors that Silent Hill can create or running away from them in order to live and explore more of the town.

Shinji Hirano, the president of Konami Digital Entertainment, has stated when the announcement was made, that “In honoring the rich history and strong following of Silent Hill, we’re working hard to build a next generation horror game that the fans truly deserve.”

He added, “This Silent Hill introduces an all-new storyline and unique evolutions in gameplay, building on innovations and successes from over a decade of true survival horror and terror.”

The latest Silent Hill launch was Shattered Memories, which arrived in 2009 for the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation 2 and the PSP.

The game was a remake of the first title in the series but also claimed to change the content it showed players based on a psychological evaluation.
