Samsung has been selling the R540 laptop for a while now, but a new version of it has now made it to market, at least in Europe, one that seems to stick to mid-to-low end specifications.

It appears that Samsung is quite eager to keep increasing its product portfolio, this once its move being the delivery of a redesigned notebook.

The laptop in question goes by the name of R540 and has now seen a new version arise, one powered by the Intel Core i3-370M central processing unit.

Said CPU has an operating clock frequency of 2.4 GHz and is backed up by either three or four GB of DDR3 RAM (random access memory), depending on how much end-users wish their machines to be configured with.

As consumers know, the chip also boasts its own Integrated Intel HD graphics, and Samsung chose not to add any discrete GPU to supplement it.

Speaking of video capabilities, the machine is designed with a 15.6-inch display whose native resolution is of 1,366 x 768 pixels, HD for short.

There is also a hard disk drive, which provides either 320 GB or 500 GB of storage space, while a DVD writer handles the optical storage and even some multimedia playback tasks.

Needless to say, the PC maker made a point of including all the necessary connectivity and I/O options, the list being made up of such things as Gigabit Ethernet, a 3-in-1 card reader, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, a webcam and HDMI.

The HDMI port should let one stream multimedia to an auxiliary device, like a monitor or HDTV.

Finally, Samsung's new R540 laptop is pre-loaded with the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium operating system and should already be listed in Europe.

Basically, it is backed up by a two-year warranty and has a price tag of 549 Euro.
