It looks like the end of the whine...

One of the first issues that came up with the MacBook Pros was the whine. Users who had machines with this problem reported hearing a whine sound being emitted by the portable.

While the whining MacBook Pros were quite a common issue, the whine itself was a protean thing, which seems to be different for each one. Fortunately, for those who are still bugged by this issue, it looks like Apple has finally cracked down on it.

"Last week I received a new revision of the logic board that actually got rid of all whine! According to my service provider that did the repair this revision was brand new, only a few days old," Rickard Almqvist reports over on MacInTouch. "With the new logic board Apple also sent new installation DVDs needed to make a new install with the new logic board. They contained 10.4.6 instead of 10.4.5 that the computer was delivered with," Almqvist reports. "To summarize: The new logic board got rid of all whines!"

So it seems that Apple finally has a new revision of the logic board on hand, one that is finally free of whines. While Apple's letter to Almqvist stated that "the new Main Logic Board provides equal functionality to the one it replaces, it does not add any additional functionality," the fact that it requires the newest version of the OS is a telltale sign that it's not just a standard replacement, but a new revision.
