The fifth release in the untethered jailbreak beta, redsn0w 0.9.7b5, is now available for download, OS X Daily reports. This is a Mac-only release.

According to the website, this release resolves several major bugs in the prior version.

One of them is the issue that prevented Bluetooth from working on handsets jailbroken with the previous redsn0w beta.

In addition to these fixes, the infamous group of hackers known as the iPhone Dev Team also added an ‘anti-piracy plea’ to the release.

The plea states that those who don’t have legitimate access to the iOS 4.2b3 IPSW file through the iPhone Developer Program shouldn’t use the latest untethered Jailbreak Monte release.

Unfortunately for those relying on their Windows PCs to jailbreak, redsn0w 0.9.7b5 is Mac only.

The Windows version is being worked on, though. According to OS X Daily, likely citing the iPhone Dev Team, the Windows version is extremely slow.

When the software behaves correctly, a Windows download will be made available as well.

According to the post in question, this won’t necessarily be a Windows release of the same redsn0w beta, but perhaps a new one altogether.

Finally, the report adds, those whose iOS devices are currently jailbroken with a previous redsn0w beta should make sure they do a fresh restore prior to using this version.

This is done by downloading a stock IPSW from Apple and applying it with iTunes (preferably, the latest version of iTunes).

For those who are not very familiar with the terms used in this report, a tethered jailbreak means that each time your device loses battery power or needs to be rebooted, you must attach it to a PC or Mac to boot into the jailbroken state.

This is considered advanced hacking and should not be tried by those who are timid about messing around with their iOS device.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
