There are about six months until the official launch date for RAGE, the new first-person shooter from id Software, but the company is already in full marketing mode for the game, announcing that the official game has been redesigned, offering more information than ever, and giving away one free song for all those who visit.

The song is called “Burning Jacob's Ladder” and is written and performed by Mark Lanegan, who is best known for the work he has done as part of Queens of the Stone Age, the alternative psychedelic rock band that impressed the music world with Rated R, Songs for the Deaf and Lullabies to Paralyze.

Mark Lanegan has also been part of Screaming Trees and Gutter Twins and is now working on a solo album.

“Burning Jacob's Ladder” accompanies the most recent trailer for RAGE, which shows off the impressive visuals that the game has to offer and underlines the bleak landscape that the designers envisioned, close to the atmosphere of the Old West with a touch of the apocalypse.

You can get the new trailer from Softpedia.

The redesigned RAGE site also offers more information than before on the game world that players will be exploring, on the weapons that they will be able to use and on the vehicles.

RAGE uses the all-new id Tech 5 game engine from id Software and will serve as a showcase of its abilities.

Initial reports talk about a very good looking game, which managed to mix the dark tones of the post apocalypse with some very impressive splashes of color thrown in.

The enemies also seem to be rather smart, adapting their attacks to the play style of the gamer.

RAGE is set for a September 13 launch date in North America and will arrive in Europe the customary three days later, with players given a choice of playing it on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC.
