We're torn like the Prince himself in Warrior Within

There are two clues discovered so far that could mean that a new Prince of Persia game is being readied by Eidos. Clue number one: series creator Jordan Mechner has recently trademarked the name "Prodigy". To add fuel to the fire, the patent sought by Mechner can only be applied to "game software and electronic game programs". It talks and looks like a game. So, it must be a game, a new Prince of Persia one.

The second clue is that there's a new page on the Ubisoft official site that has no business being there unless it's teasing us poor gamers with the possibilities that it is encasing. The page itself shows only some Arabic script, which some intrepid journalists have translated as Minjar, which apparently means telescope.

The guys over at Eurogamer are also reporting that the source code for the page includes references to Ubisoft Montreal and to UbiDays, which might mean that the game is currently in development in Montreal and the official unveiling will take place in late May in Paris, at the official Ubisoft event.

It's pretty clear to anyone that a new Prince of Persia game is being produced. The only real question now (aside from the other obvious ones) is whether this is a port to an untouched platform of one of the previous games or whether we are looking at an entirely new game that will take the saga of the Prince forward. I'm also wondering what will he do with that telescope, but that's a question for much later.

The original side scrolling game that was Prince of Persia was rebooted by Ubisoft in a new trilogy, in which the action revolves around time manipulation, the Dagger and the Sands of Time. The Prince of today is much more athletic and much darker in some instances than the Prince of the 1990's. Given the success of the Sands of Time trilogy, it's very likely that Ubisoft is thinking of doing new Prince of Persia games.
