More sword fighting and more poetry

After the initial news that Ubisoft was making a new Prince of Persia game, a few more details on the game itself have become available, coming from Jean-Christophe Guyot, who is the creative director on this new Prince project.

While talking to the French gaming magazine Joypad, he declared that "The previous trilogy mixed the Arabian Nights in with historical Persia. We decided we'd prefer to return to the tales of the Thousand and One Nights for something more colorful". Which might mean more fantasy units and weirder characters that might take the game out of the previous logic of being mythical and turn it towards the fantasy area more. Or it might just mean that we'll see more stories interwoven with each other to create the new narrative element that the game requires.

The creative director also admitted the fact that some of his design decisions are rather controversial, mainly mentioning the idea that the game will use cell shaded graphics as one of the main issues. But he also firmly expressed the fact that the people at Ubisoft are completely behind anything that the team decides. It seems "They were worried the Americans wouldn't like it. There were many discussions, but they never said no to us".

The game will focus more on the sword duels than on puzzles and platforming, and the enemies will be created in a different manner. Rather than focusing on overwhelming the player with superior numbers of foes, the developers at Ubisoft Montreal have decided to create smarter and tougher enemies that will be harder to take down, in addition to a greater number of bosses that will challenge the player to do more than simply hack and slash to defeat them.

Developers estimate that the game will be out later this year, with Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC versions planned so far.
