First teaser poster for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” drops, doesn’t really say much
First teaser poster for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” drops, doesn’t really say much

The fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film doesn’t drop until May 2011, but this is just as good a time as always for Disney to start teasing it. Case in point, the first teaser poster for it, which has just hit the web.

Though it appears to be very similar to posters released for the previous “Pirates” films, this one for “On Stranger Tides” does hold the key to (or at least hints at) what happens in it. Or so fans believe.

As ScreenCrave points out, even if the poster may appear to bring nothing new to the table, it still manages to tease, just like it was supposed to, until the character posters come out.

“The image surfaced over on IMP Awards and it looks similar to the teaser posters for the previous films. Over the past few months the sequel has been shooting in Hawaii and London and should be wrapping up fairly soon, which explains this release,” SC notes.

“What are the differences in this skull and sword poster that separates it from the previous ones? We noticed that the skull isn’t made of bone, it appears to be some kind of metal,” the same e-zine notes.

“The teeth are all gold and silver, and there’s a different medallion hanging from its headband,” ScreenCrave further says of what’s new in this poster.

A reader also notes that 3 skeletons (hands) dangle from the coin at the end of the braid, which could mean 3 people have to die for one to gain immortality.

A first hint of whether all these observations actually have correspondents in the plot of the film will come with the first official trailer, which should play in theaters in 3D with “Tron: Legacy,” as we also informed you a while back.

Fans not making any plans of seeing “Tron” can catch the first “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” trailer one week earlier, when it is released online.

The film comes out in 3D on May 20, 2011 – until then, keep an eye on this space for updates.
