Fancy ones too, not just pieces of bent over metal

When it comes to USB flash drives, there isn't much for storage device makers to do other than making them look fancy, occasionally adding some unusual quirk to the case.

This is because everyone uses the same storage technologies and design principles when making them. There isn't much variety to be had on a market where all devices are basically the same thing; a bunch of NAND Flash chips connected to a USB port.

The new PNY Hook Series is quite aptly named. They have a hook-and-lock mechanism on the top, which allows owners to hang them from belt traps, lanyards, keychains or whatever else they can think of.

The bodies are fashioned from metal, not plastic, which surely impacted the price range. Unfortunately, we do now know what it is.

While PNY revealed the capacity range well enough (4 GB to 64 GB), it did not include, in the press release, the price tags.

Then again, it would have had a long list to write if it had bothered. There are five versions of the flash drives: Hook Attaché (the normal series), Transformer Attaché (180-degree rotating design), Mini Hook Attaché (self-explanatory, 32 GB max capacity), Hook Attaché 3.0 (faster performance, 5 Gbps bandwidth versus 480 Mbps in USB 2.0), and Gold Hook Attaché 3.0 (golden color plating).
