It really seems that the trend among compact digital camera manufacturers in early 2011 is to pack a very serious zoom in a very slim and portable form factor, and thus it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Nikon also released such a product, namely the COOLPIX S9100 compact digital camera.

Without a doubt, the camera's main selling point is represented by its 18x NIKKOR wide-angle lens offering a range from 25mm to 450mm, which is quite impressive, given the S9100's slim form factor.

Beside the lens, the Coolpix S9100 also sports a back illuminated 12.1 megapixel CMOS image sensor, that enables an enhanced level of image quality even in low-light conditions, as well as the EXPEED C2 image processing engine, enabling ultra-fast operation.

Additional features that help users attain good-quality photos at all times include the Hybrid VR (Sensor-shift and Electronic Vibration Reduction) system that reduces the effect of camera shake, the High ISO (up to 3200) light sensitivity, as well as a motion detection system that compensates for camera and subject movement.

Additional features worth mentioning include Full HD (1080p) video recording at 240fps (QVGA), the presence of a Panorama mode, a 7.5 cm (3 in.) high resolution 921k-dot LCD monitor and plenty of creative shooting modes.

"The COOLPIX S9100 will open up new avenues for people who demand powerful performance in a compact body. Through its wide-angle to super-telephoto coverage, Full HD video, and functions that make handheld night-time shooting as easy as taking daytime pictures, this slim and stylish camera enables creative freedom and the ability to capture pictures as you see them." said Sander van Velzen, product manager for Consumer Products at Nikon Europe.

According to Nikon, their brand-new Coolpix S9100 compact digital camera is slated to become officially available on the 17th of March, 2011, and will sell for around 300 pounds sterling or 348 Euro (475 US dollars).
