Racing games have always been quite popular, as a lot of people wanted to envision themselves pushing the most popular sports cars to their limits on different circuits, tracks or roads. That is why Electronic Arts' Need For Speed franchise has been so popular over the years, gaining a huge number of fans around the world.

But sadly, all those fans were quite disappointed with the latest few titles in the series, as they didn't bring quite a lot of new and interesting stuff to the old racing recipe. However, a few months ago EA made a very surprising announcement when it unveiled the fact that four new titles would appear this year bearing the NFS brand.

One of the most highly expected is Need For Speed Shift, developed by Slightly Mad Studios, which aims at offering one of the most realistic and engaging pro-racing experiences found on the market. It will allow players to view the race from the driving seat and actually experience all the things that the pilot is subjected to during a race.

“Shift is aimed squarely at the race simulation sub-genre but it’s not intended to be a sterile or grinding simulation game,” said Jesse Abney, producer for NFS Shift. “It’s an authentic race experience that keys into the Driver Experience; emulating a true driver’s experience is how we are differentiating ourselves. For example; how does it sound to be behind the wheel of a high performance race car on the starting grid? What does the simulation of G-force look like? How does it feel to misjudge a corner and slam into a wall at 150 or seeing the AI cars making the same mistakes, locking up breaks, blocking competitors or overtaking? These true-to-life aspects of racing are at the heart of the driver experience.”

Also, the EA team released a few new screenshots of the game, which show off some more cars that will be available for pilots to drive on different race tracks around the world. Here they are for all you racing fans to enjoy. More details will appear in the future, so check back to stay informed.
