Network-attached storage devices have long been one of the areas where Buffalo dabbles, and here is the latest product from that side: the LS220D.

It's a pretty standard product, all told, since the company was aiming for general appeal more than to leave people awestruck. After all, awe-inspiring products tend to cost more than an arm and a leg.

Anyway, the LS220D is a dual-bay NAS, which means that it can house two HDDs inside.

RAID 0 mode is supported, for maximum speed, but RAID 1 is available as well, for those who favor data redundancy and recoverability more.

That said, a USB 2.0 port is included, though it is more intended to allow flash drives and other storage devices to become accessible to networked devices. The real connectivity comes from the Gigabit Ethernet port.

Buffalo made sure that DLNA & DTCP-IP support was included (for playback of digitally protected content).

Sales will start around mid-April 2014 (next month) for prices of $326 / €237 (2 TB, 2 x 1TB), $424 / €310 (4 TB, 2 x 2 TB), $544 / €395 (6 TB, 2 x 3TB) and $732 / €533 (8 TB, 2 x 4 TB). “WebAccess” is supported on them all (Buffalo cloud storage).
