There are quite a few ultra-portable scanners available on the market, but the one we'll talk about as follows, namely the Mustek ScanExpress S324 Pocket Scanner, does offer a feature that really manages to stand out from the crowd, coming with a built-in display that allows users to easily check out a preview of the photo or document they've just scanned before saving it. So, the S324 Pocket Scanner not only accepts full-page documents and photographs (up to full 8 1/2" x 11" documents and photographs, and photos as small as 3" x 5"), scanning them at up to 300 dpi resolution. Moreover, the device sports a 2.4-inch LCD display with 480 x 234 pixel resolution located on the front side that allows users to check out the contents of a scanned item (either photo or document), in JPG format (the Mustek ScanExpress S324 Pocket Scanner converts the scanned image to JPG before saving it). Furthermore, for enhanced versatility, the scanner also includes software to convert scans into Excel, Word, or PDF documents. The converter accepts SD and MMC memory card formats (up to 32 GB), a typical 4GB SD memory card saving up to 875 images. Once stored onto a memory card, digital images can be transferred using the included mini-USB cable to a PC running Windows 7, Vista, or XP, or to a Mac for additional editing as desired. Since we're talking about a device that has been designed to be carried around fairly easily, this thing measures 11 1/4" W x 2 1/4" H x 3 1/4" D and weighs roughly 1 1/4 lbs.. The Mustek ScanExpress S324 Pocket Scanner sells at Hammacher Schlemmer for around 170 US dollars, which is not exactly very affordable, but we're pretty sure that some deeper searches on the Internet will land you a slightly better deal.
