Since Mortal Kombat X's debut trailer was released, last week, fans of the series have been eager to find out more details on what’s new in the game, how many new characters they will get and what the game will look like in terms of graphics.

Thankfully, if you’re a fan of the series, you won’t have to wait at all, as Ed Boon, creative director of NetherRealm Studios, developer of Mortal Kombat X, has just been interviewed by PlayStation Blog.

During the 14-minute interview, he revealed much of the game’s new features and confirmed that Mortal Kombat X would have “tons of new characters.”

But the real improvement over the previous titles in the series comes from the fact that each character in the game has three versions, each with different powers.

As you can see from the interview and gameplay video, Scorpion can be used with the Ninjutsu and he will mostly fight using dual swords.

He can also be used with another variation called Hellfire where he receives fire-based spells like Hell Ball, Demon Fire and Flame Aura.

The same goes for all the other characters in the game. Speaking of which, there are three new characters that were presented during the interview, including the female bee-like in the debut trailer launched at E3.

Her name is D’Vorah and she’s half insect, half human, so expect her to “sting” a lot. Another new character who’s a bit of a mystery is Kotal Khan.

The third character also appeared in the debut trailer and is called Ferra/Torr. The little lady on the back is called Ferra and the hulking brute is Torr.

However, the main star is likely to be Cassie Cage, who is the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. That’s why she will use a range of moves and powers from both her parents. Obviously, she also has three variations that players can choose to play with.

The story in the Mortal Kombat X takes place over the span of 25 years into the future and starts right after the end of the previous game in the series.

This will be obvious for fans of Mortal Kombat, as they will see aged characters thanks to the next-gen technology implemented. Moving on to graphics, Mortal Kombat X looks gorgeous and features dynamic backgrounds.

Players will also be able to interact with some of the objects in the background. For example, they will be able to run up on a wall. The energy meter has been maintained and refined in Mortal Kombat X, which allows players to enhance their special powers or execute amazing X-Ray moves.

Ed Boone has also confirmed that Mortal Kombat X will run in 1080p at 60fps, so you won’t have to worry about missing any frame while fighting in the arena.

And if you’re wondering who’s the big bad guy that you will have to kill in Mortal Kombat X, then you will have to wait a bit longer as Boone claims that they are not yet ready to reveal that info. However, he did say that it would be a “surprise returning character” that some Mortal Kombat fans might or might not see coming.
