If anyone thought that “Twilight” was dark and depressing, then they don’t know what’s coming to them on November 20, when “New Moon” is released, as the first film in the franchise only laid the basis for the heartbreak that follows in the second one. Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black) recently spoke to MTV about the much-hyped love triangle in the story, and how that changed their perspective on the film, as well as the relationship they had until then.

For Stewart, having to play such heartbreaking scenes was almost like an ordeal, the actress confesses. The drama eventually got to her, especially as it came in a context in which she was really afraid she could not render all the emotion and the sadness so well presented in Stephenie Meyer’s second book. Eventually, she nailed it, the star is convinced, but not before she literally felt she might die from the pain she was trying to render for the cameras.

“Everything in our movie, it’s such a heightened version of reality. People don’t just break up [in the films] – they break up and it literally kills you. It’s not like you just say, ‘Oh, I’m really depressed and crying.’ I always had a really hard time figuring out, ‘Am I doing enough? Do I look like I’m going to die?’ My favorite line in the book is when I have to say to [Jacob], ‘It’s him; it’s always been him!’ Yeah, it killed me. It killed me.” Stewart reveals for MTV.

Taylor too agrees that there is a lot of heartbreak in the second film, especially towards the end, after his character helps Bella see there is life past Edward (Robert Pattinson), only to have his heart broken as well upon the vampire’s return. Nevertheless, his absence does leave enough room for a new relationship to bloom, one where Bella discovers a friend and bonds with him in ways she could never do with Edward.

“It’s such a different relationship; it’s like entirely original.” Stewart explains of how things evolve between Bella and Jacob from “Twilight” to “New Moon.” “And only he can bring her out of that rut. Like, she literally is going to die; she’s going to stop eating and be done. And the only thing that brings her out of it is this lightness [Jacob] brings. That cute, little, fuzzy wolf.” the actress further explains.
