Only interested in the warfare

We already know that the new Medal of Honor game, which Electronic Arts aims to deliver before the end of the year, will be set against the background of the current Afghanistan war and that the character who graces the cover is based on a real life person. With such a grounding in reality, the title is in a unique position to tackle something beyond the immediate warfare, talking about the causes and prospects of the war.

Talking to IncGamers, Sean Decker, who is working at the Electronic Arts Los Angeles studio in charge of the first person shooter, said that “I think, again, it was trying to stay out of all the politics. It's not going to be a big propaganda piece where we wave the flag, or anything like that. It's literally about the people that are on the ground.”

He points to the movie Hurt Locker, which is in the running for quite a few Oscars this year, as a good piece of entertainment that does not tackle the political angle but manages to tell a relevant story about the people who are in the front lines, fighting and suffering the brunt of the violence. The new Medal of Honor aims to tackle “what they go through on a day-to-day basis and their emotions.”

Gamers were pretty surprised when EA announced that it was reviving the Medal of Honor series and bringing it into the modern era. With Modern Warfare 2 offering a story very hard to follow and a limited single player campaign, this new military sim could actually appeal to gamers if it manages to convey some of the realities and emotions of the combat in Afghanistan.

Medal of Honor is set to be delivered to gamers on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC. The multiplayer section of the game is being handled by DICE.
