EW has unveiled the cover for this week’s issue and it’s super creepy and intriguing at the same time: it’s a promo shot for “Gone Girl” with Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, but it’s not an official movie still.

Based on the best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn, who also wrote the script, “Gone Girl” tells the story of Nick Dunne and Amy Dunne, two out of work writers who move from New York to his home town. She goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary and he immediately becomes the prime suspect for her murder.

But is she really dead?

The novel, which I read breathlessly and enjoyed like few others before, plays with perception and the idea that appearances can make or break someone’s future. The fact the David Fincher is directing the big screen adaptation makes this even more exciting.

He also shot the cover of EW, telling the mag that he was never in the mood to work with “likeable” characters. “I don’t know what ‘likable’ is. I know people who are doting parents, who give to charity, drive Priuses, all those things, who are insufferable [expletive]holes. I like people who get [stuff] done,” he says.

And Amy Dunne, aka Amazing Amy, sure likes to get things done.

“Gone Girl” also stars Neil Patrick Harris as Amy’s former lover and Emily Ratajkowski, aka the hot girl from Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” video, as Nick’s current mistress. It will be out in October 2014.
