It was during the last year's E3 Sony press conference that a Gran Turismo HD demo was showcased, a quick look to Grand Turismo 4 port for PS3. While many assumed it was only a tech demo, Gamespot now quotes Famitsu magazine as it looks the game is being developed in full. Moreover, the title is supposed to be a transitionary title from the old PS2 hardware to the futuristic PS3 equipments.

We learn the details from Kazunori Yamauchi, Polyphony Digital's headman. It appears there were two points of interest in the article. First off, the working title has been dropped giving room to the final name, Gran Turismo HD. Secondly, the developer praised made note of the game's high definition graphics but stated they are merely a teaser for the next generation titles in development for PS3. The game is now officially a data port from Grand Turismo 4, enhanced with the said Playstation 3 video goodness. Since he admitted having moderate sales to the original title, the game is just "a step in the process of developing a next-generation GT game.

We are working on a version of GT that supports the full PS3 specification," Yamauchi said, adding, "but in this transitional version, I think you'll get a taste of the potential that next generation games hold." As a piece of racing trivia, Yamauchi said the idea actually came from the Photo Mode in GT4, which allowed players to take high-resolution stills: "I thought it would be incredible to see these stills animated in real time." At an ongoing 1920x1080p resolution and 60 fps, Gran Turismo HD supports the highest resolutions Japan's newest HD TV sets can reach.
