Things at Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant just keep getting better. Yesterday, a spokesperson for Tokyo Electric Power Co. (Tepco, for short) announced that, in the aftermath of a typhoon that struck the country, some 4 tons of possibly contaminated water had spilled into the environment.

The leak occurred while plant employees were busy transferring radioactive water from one tank holding area to another, RT reports.

The water that hit the environment was rainwater that flooded one of these tank holding areas during the typhoon, the same source details. Hence the fact that it could contain traces of radioactive material.

Apparently, one of the workers was the first to figure out that something was off, and alerted the others. The possibly contaminated water was absorbed into the ground.

Despite having such a tough time keeping the situation at this facility under control, Tepco has asked that Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority give it permission to reopen two of the reactors at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant.
